Liberty League Standings

On Sunday a number of us were discussing the standings and how they are computed. I called the Liberty League person (who happens to work at St Lawrence University …which is suspect!) and found out. They take what we did against each league opponent and compute using 1000 as denominator. i.e. we were 500 against Skidmore (1-1)and 750 against Vassar (3-1).They then add up the above and divide by the number of teams we played. In summary we are 500 Skidmore, 1000 Clarkson, 750 Union, 500 RPI and 750 Vassar. Total 3,500 divided by 5 different opponents =700. Bottom line, if we sweep St L we win the league. If we don’t we need to take at least 3 from St L and then the next weekend we need Clarkson to take 2 against StL for us to win the league. The fact that St L played only 2 games against each of Skidmore and Vassar and won all 4 games …hurt us.
