Rochester travels to St. Lawrence

Due to the weather forecast, the weekend series with St. Lawrence was moved from Sat/Sun to Fri/Sat. In the first game on Friday, Steve Guzski took the mound for the Yellowjackets.

The first 2 innings were scoreless, although both teams had 1 hit. In the top of the 3rd, Andy Cannon singled and stole second, Dan Brien walked, and Cannon took third on a passed ball. Jay Jay Vanderstyne hit a sac fly to score Cannon. UR led 1-0 after 3 innings of play.

In the bottom of the 4th, St. Lawrence scored 2 runs on 2 hits and an error to take the lead 2-1 after 4 innings.

The score remained the same and in the bottom of the 6th, Luke Brocks came on in relief of Guzski with men on 1st and 3rd with 1 out. He got out of the inning without them scoring!!

In the top of the 7th, Andy Cannon singled, Blayne Fuke singled, both stole a base to move to 2nd and 3rd, and Casey Storme walked to load the bases. Robby Barnard pinch ran for Storme, Ryan Sullivan doubled home Cannon and Fuke, with Barnard going to 3rd. Matt Francis singled to score Barnard. UR now led 4-2. Ned Chanatry came in and got a 1-2-3 inning to finish the game. Ned got the save and Luke Brocks got the win.

Game 2, saw Michael Park take the mound. Rochester got on the board in the 2nd, when Casey Storme reached on an error and scored on Matt Francis' double. UR led 1-0.

St. Lawrence answered with a run in the bottom of the 2nd to tie the game at 1 after 2 innings. In the top of the 3rd, Andy Cannon singled, Blayne Fuke reached on an error, Dan Brien hit a sac fly to advance both runners, Ryan Sullivan hit a sac fly to score Cannon and advance Fuke to 3rd, Casey Storme singled and drove in Fuke for a 3-1 UR lead!

St. Lawrence got 1 run back in the bottom of the 3rd to cut the lead to 3-2.

In the 4th, Mike Wexler came in to pitch for Michael Park and St. Lawrence was able to score 3 runs on 3 hits, an error, and a walk. St. Lawrence had gone ahead by the score of 5-3. He was then able to hold them scoreless the rest of the game.

UR scored a run in the 8th on a Dan Brien double and a Brian Bezek RBI single, now the score was 5-4, but that was where it would end. The first Liberty League loss for UR and the first Liberty League win for St. Lawrence.

Those that were there commented that the team looked flat and lifeless. Hopefully, a better day was in store for the Yellowjackets on Saturday!
