This week - the Jackets showed their depth in the RIT games. In the first game, Luke Brocks pitched very well on his way to a 3-0 record and Michael Park finished it up. Ryan Sullivan started at catcher and was hit by a pitch in the 1st inning and was removed from the game. He was replaced by Steve Just who went on to have a great game, going 3 for 3 with 3 runs scored and 5 RBI's. He had a single, double, and he also homered!! This team has shown great resiliency and depth throughout the lineup and on the field.
The pitching staff continues to get the job done, and the offense has been great 1-9 in the lineup! Defense has shown itself to be consistent and improving.
In the second game, all of this was needed!
RIT got off to a fast start, scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the first inning off of Paul Toland. Steve Guzski was put in to pitch in the 2nd inning, and RIT added 1 run in the bottom of the 3rd, to lead 4-0 thru 3 innings.
In the top of the 4th, Dave Kloc tripled to drive in 2 and cut the lead in half.
In the top of the 5th, UR played small ball to produce 2 runs and tie the game. A couple of singles, a sac bunt by Greg Larioni, a wild pitch and a passed ball, and we had a 4-4 tie.
In the top of the seventh, Steve Just came through again with an RBI single to put UR ahead by 1!
Blair Veenema, in a rare relief appearance, had come in to pitch for Guzski in the 6th, faced 1 batter, and left 2 RIT runners stranded. In the bottom of the 7th, he struck out the first 2 batters, let up a single, and got the last out on a fly ball to left!
This weekend, Vassar comes to town with 2 games at UR on Saturday, and 2 games @ RIT on Sunday!
Thanks to the Cannon Family for providing for the food between games at RIT!
