Goose Update

Steve Guzski is playing for the Rome (NY) Thunderbolts of the East Coast Baseball League (wood bat) this summer. The team includes players from D1 Lemoyne College, Canisius, Marist, Vermont and UBuffalo...as well as premier D3 programs, none better than the UR of course :)

The T'Bolts opened their season with an exhibition game against the Geneva RedWings of the NYCBL last night in Geneva. Geneva sported a roster of Notre Dame, Holy Cross, UToledo, LynnU, USouthFlorida and UConn players (you get the idea), and the manager is from Stanford...we're they surprised when the T'Bolts handed it to them 7-4. Goose pitched the 8th inning; 3 up and 3 down, including a K of the DH from ND.

I must admit it was neat to hear the "crack" of the wood bat vs the "ping" of the metal stuff. Only one broken bat all night, and 11 total runs...I think the college ranks are missing the boat by allowing metal. Of course that's a pitcher's father speaking.

All the best to the UR players this summer. For those coming back next year, we can't wait...
