Liberty League Tournament this weekend
The final NCAA regional rankings are Thursday and the tournament selection is Sunday night. If we win the tournament, we are in automatically! If not, we have to hope for a pool C bid, which we have not been able to secure over the last few years. It really is this simple - just win the tournament and you are in!
The RIT loss on Tuesday hurt and could be the difference in a possible pool C bid!
I can't understand the late season inability to win over the last few years that has hampered the chances for the team to go to the NCAA tournament. Is it the academic pressure brought on by finals? Are the boys tired at the end of the 40 game schedule in a short 2 month season? Is it a combination of both? Is it something else?
Last year the team won 30 games, but went 0-2 in the tournament and was left out of the NCAA tournament.
This year's team is another good team deserving of a bid, so go out and get it done in the Liberty League tournament and do not leave it to chance.
Easy way is 3 wins, stay in winners bracket, win 1 game each day! Harder is to come through the losers bracket and have to play more games (5) to get to the same end result - win the tournament!
I know it is also Graduation weekend - so congrats to all the seniors and I expect we will have a large contingent on hand to cheer on the Yellowjackets as they compete in the tournament!
See you all this weekend and best of luck to the team!
See you at the ballpark!

PS - Weather for the weekend has showers and thunderstorms early on both Friday and Saturday with temps in mid 60's and partly cloudy all weekend. Hopefully, they are wrong this weekend!

Skidmore weekend
THANKS to all who made the cookout happen. I could not have done it without all of your participation.
A split yesterday may not be a bad thing, depending on how today goes. Rain is in the forecast in Saratoga, so we will wait and see what happens, hopefully we get 2 games in today. Sun is shining through many clouds at the present time. At a minimum, a split today keeps distance in the standings, but I don't think anyone can catch us. We only have today and next weekend in conference, all other teams have an additional weekend at the end. So, the last weekend will be interesting watching from afar, as 4 teams jockey for the remaining 3 playoff spots. Should be a couple of great weekends of baseball!!
See you at the ballpark,

Vassar/senior weekend
What a great weekend! Senior ceremony was very emotional as usual, especially so, as it followed a great comeback in the 9th inning of the second game on Sunday.
Thanks to all who put on the food after the ceremony.
Tuesday at Ithaca - should be a good one!
Next weekend at Skidmore very big as they are in 2nd place in the League, and are looking to knock us off after 2 straight years of 4-0 sweeps in Florida!
I am planning on a cookout after the Saturday games and will send out an email - hope many are travelling and we have great weather!

Yellowjackets split in Florida
Day one of the 2010 season opened today with 2 games at at Dodgertown in Vero Beach, Florida.
They split with Neumann with the Yellowjackets taking the first 8-6, and dropping the 2nd game 8-3.
Weather is great clear blue skies, but a little breezy for some.
The hilight of the day may have been when with 1 out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, the batter lifted a fly ball to center that Matt Francis caught, hit the cutoff man Alex Parker, who relayed to Casey Storme for a double play to end the inning and preserve the win!
Tomorrow a single game and then a non-game day on Monday to practice and relocate near Sanford for the UAA Tournament.
See you at the ballpark!

Word Verification When Posting
FYI - I had to turn on word verification since spammers were adding comments; hopefully this will help. After you post a comment, you'll have to enter one of those goofy word codes. You'll see what I mean when you go to publish. Guess we have more fans than we want. Have fun all in Florida. I'm still jealous!

Hey everyone!
Just got back from Miami yesterday and I want March to get here quickly! Can't wait to go back to Florida and see everyone and see what the Yellowjackets will look like for 2010. Heard they practiced at 530 AM this morning. It's cold and snowy here in Rochester. Boys will be inside until Florida and then they hit the field running literally! If they get any decent weather they will get on the turf football field and practice including long toss and fly balls.
Great to see the posts starting to heat up and everyone adding comments to posts. Keep it up throughout the season it helps us all to keep in touch.
Rich Cannon also posts on the D3 website, which has a listing for the Liberty League, Upstate NY College baseball, and National topics and has comments about all teams and Leagues.
Hope all is well, see you soon at the ballpark!!

Glad to be here
Hi to the Rochester baseball family. I am Mark Menke and my wife is Nancy Cooney. We're the parents of Jonathan Menke, one of the incoming freshmen for 2013. We are looking forward to rooting for the team and watching Jon begin his college career, particularly with a team such as we have at Rochester. From what we saw in the fall, this should be a fun filled year. We will be in Florida an we are planning on coming to a couple of the weekend doubleheaders.

Posting on This Blog
Hello parents!
My name is Patti and I am the parent of a UR graduate, Ryan Sullivan, and am already missing the camaraderie of the parents and players. I started this blog three years ago to help parents communicate. Anyone can reply to posts on the blog but if you want to start an original post, then you will need to create a google account and you will also need to send an email to either Ed Kehovac or me (Patti Sullivan) so we can give you permission to post.
Good luck to the team and enjoy the season. It goes by way too fast!

Four years?...already??
As the parents of senior pitcher Steve Guzski (aka"Goose"), we'd like to also extend a warm welcome to all the freshmen, transfers and their families. It seems like yesterday we were the new kids on the block and were welcomed into UR baseball by so many of the nice families that preceded us (and now we face the "parental" end of organized baseball). It makes a difference in the overall experience, really deepens it, and we want to offer the same to all interested families; whether you can only make it to Florida, one game or every single game depending upon where you live. If you are rooting for UR, then we want to count you as one of "us" and get to know you and your son a little better.
Just one word of advice to the new families: you may recognize us (the ones with the UR garb on, those that seem to know many others, etc.) before we know who you are, and I think there may be as many new families this year as those returning. So, here's the advice: please don't hesitate to introduce yourselves and join in the fun. You may notice that the team will gel quickly - all typically great, smart kids who play outstanding baseball...and we'd like the same for the families - if you are interested, of course. I have found over the past 3 years that UR typically brings the largest contingent of fans, who appear to be having the most fun together (of course, we win about 75% of the time, so that helps !!). We invite you to join in the fun to the degree you want - "the more the merrier" as they say. Looking forward to meeting you in Florida, Rochester, or where ever our paths may cross during the season.
Sincerely, Steve and Beth Guzski
PS - We aren't a cult, we just act like one sometimes. : )

And so it begins...
Welcome to the 2010 baseball season. First day of practice is today. Looking forward to Florida and some warmer weather!! The 3 amigos ( Me, Rich Cannon, and Jeff Caghan ) will be putting together a parent contact list, the annual parents dinner in Florida, ( see previous comments ) and anything else that we parents come up with to support the team.
There will be food involved - always! We have done cookouts and provided food for the team between doubleheader games. Everyone has been very supportive in whatever we have come up with. What would you like to see this season?
Me - Liberty League Tournament Championship and the automatic NCAA bid that comes with it.
Not too much too wish for is it?
Nina says hi to everyone!
See you soon at the ballpark!!

Hi everyone.
Hello to the veterans and welcome to the new Yellowjackets parents! As Jeff mentioned, he will be working toward finalizing the dinner. I wasn't anticpating being in Florida this year only because of a new job, but my plans have allowed me to be in Sanford for the last few days of UAA. So, I will be assisting Jeff with the dinner.
At the suggestions of Ed Kahovec, I started this parent dinner two years ago with the fantastic help of Beth Guzski. In my opinion it has been a great success. Getting the "rookie" parents involved in the Yellowjackets tradition with the veterans has been great fun.
Since my son is a senior, and I may not be able to ever come to Florida again in Sanford, I needed to pass the task along to someone who fells like I do about getting the parents together, especially welcoming-in the new parents. However, I will be in Florida on Thursday to follow-up on the dining arrangements with Jeff and Beth.
I would like to see if this can become an annual tradition, so I decided to give our dinner a name. It will be called The Yellowjackets Parent Community Network Dinner. This years is our 3rd. Looking forward to seeing you all in Florida.
GO JACKETS!!!!!

Happy New Year
Well, I see that not much has transpired on the blog since last Fall. Time to get with it people!!!
2010 baseball season is almost here.
Who is travelling to Florida this year? The spring trip is scheduled from 3/5 - 3/14 starting in Vero Beach and then moves to Sanford for the UAA tournament. By the end of the week we will know a lot about the kind of team we will have in 2010.
I am looking forward to the new season and seeing old friends and making new ones as we welcome our new baseball family members to the group.
Rich Cannon is working on this year's updated parents contact list, and Jeff Caghan will be coordinating the family dinner in Florida.
46 more days until the first game!! YEAH! Looking forward to it.
See you soon at the ballpark!
