Sweatshirts and golf shirts

I sent out an email and received a pretty strong and favorable response to ordering sweatshirts and golf shirts. I passed the basic info to Coach Reina and he will let me know what we will be able to order. He did state that sweatshirts will probably be silk-screened to keep the cost in line. I will keep everyone posted as we move through this process. If you did not get the email, I apologize, I used Coach Reina's email list and several email addresses bounced back. Please let me know your email address and I will update my list. If I don't have an updated email, once the team roster is set, I will have my son contact the boys whose parents email is in question and we will get it corrected as we move into the season.

I will use this blog throughout the season as the main way to communicate, as it is available to everyone without clogging up email. I will review games and give my biased opinion on how good our team is and how well the boys are playing!! This way those of you that can not make it to the game can get an insight that your son may not share with you.

How was the game - good, we won, How did you play - good, etc, don't you love those one word answers!!

My review will be positive and stress the good things that I observed, and although there will be mistakes, errors, strikeouts, etc. I would rather focus on the positives and name those boys who did well, rather than writing that Johnny struck out with the bases loaded and cost the team the game! As we have all followed our sons and this great game long enough, we all know that the strikeout with the bases loaded was not the reason that the team lost the game, and it is a team game played by individuals. Although, a grand slam late in the game is always appreciated by the pitching staff, coaches, and fans!!!

I will try to include enough information about the games, who attended, the weather, dinner, the hotel, and other useful or not so useful information, so you all can feel like you know what went on when you can not attend. I hope you will find this to be helpful.

As always, I welcome your input - this is for all of us to share in support of the baseball team.

I will be in touch as soon as I know more details on the clothing.

All the best,

Ed

Websites & Summer Leagues

I added two links on the right side of the blog for the Liberty League and the UAA - University Athletic Association. Both of these websites will have information on the UR Baseball team as the season gets closer. These links are also available on the UR Baseball site.

I contacted Coach Reina about summer league info and he has requested that parents ask their sons about this question since the players know the process.

Florida Update per Coach Reina

Dear Parents,

Happy New Year to all of you and your families. I hope the Holiday season was relaxing for all of you and you are as excited for the spring season as I am. I have received several e-mails concerning the logistics for our trip to Florida. This is what I know as of today:

The Dates of the trip are March 7-16th. We will be flying into Tampa, FL on the 7th. We have 5 games scheduled in the Tampa/St. Petersburg area prior to our annual UAA Tournament in Sanford, FL.

Hotel: Comfort Inn Executive Center
3580 Ulmerton Rd.
Clearwater, FL
727-573-1171

March 8-Game vs. Drew University (NJ) Time and Venue are TBD
March 9- Game vs. Skidmore College DH - 10am @ Miller Huggins Field in St. Pete
March 10- Game vs. Skidmore College DH - 9:30am @ Miller Huggins Field in St. Pete

The Games vs. Skidmore College are in place of the weekend in March 22-23. Both teams agreed that playing the games in Florida would greatly increase the chances of actually playing them.

After the games on the 10th we will travel to Altamonte Springs, FL

Hotel: Holiday Inn of Altamonte Springs
800-266-4544

Rate for Parents is $92/ night

The UAA Tournament Starts on Tues the 11th. Here is the schedule:

March 11- vs. Brandeis 2:30pm
March 12- vs. Case Western 11am
March 13- vs. Wash U 10am
vs. Emory 1pm
March 14- vs. Case Western 6pm
March 15- vs. Wash U. 6pm

We will start practice on January 29th (Tues) with 30 players trying out. The roster will be final by the 7th of February with the final 26 players. All players will be receiving a letter within the next 2 weeks letting them know what this years contribution to the Florida Trip and apparel package will be.

I will e-mail everyone a 2008 Spring schedule as soon as it becomes final. There are a few Liberty League dates that are in the process of being switched around to conflicts with other outdoor sports. As soon as we resolve these issues and the dates and times are final and contracted out, I will be sure to e-mail you all a copy.

Enjoy the start of 2008 and Go Yellowjackets!!!!

Saturday March 15 - 6:00 UR vs Washington University - St. Louis

This is all preliminary - times/schedules subject to change.

For anyone new to the program - welcome! We have a great group of parents and are very supportive of the team. We travel well to all games home and away, as well as the Florida trip. I do not have details on where the team will be staying, but will post as soon as I get more details. Some parents like to stay where the team stays, while others stay at other places. As a suggestion, make reservations as soon as possible, that can be changed or cancelled as you get more details and can make an informed decision.

My personal plan is to fly into Tampa on Friday night and fly out of Orlando the following Sunday. We are staying with my sister-in-law in St. Pete, and then staying in Orlando when the team moves to Sanford. Sanford is located off I-4, between Orlando and Daytona Beach, a little closer to Orlando, on the northeast side of town.

We also have an email list which will be updated as I receive new email addresses. I also use this for contact info for parents in case of emergency, as I have been fortunate to be able to attend almost every game, and if I am not there, my wife will be.

To contact me, feel free to use any of the following methods:

Home Phone: 585-742-2370
Work phone: 585-263-9282
Cell Phone: 585-721-9776
email @ home: nkahovec@yahoo.com
email @ work: ekahovec@highfalls.com

I remember what it was like to be the new parent, please feel free to contact me with anything at all, questions, comments, suggestions, etc. Also, if anyone has any suggestions for what they would like to see in the BLOG, let me know or feel free to suggest in a post.

Happy New Year to all,

Go Jackets!
