UAA Honors - 4 UR Players

The following information was taken from an article on the URBaseball website. Click here to see the complete article.
I'm still working on how to post photos. Patti Sullivan

"Four Rochester baseball players have earned All-Association honors from the University Athletic Association in balloting of the head coaches.

Honorees were selected after conclusion of the UAA Championship Tournament in Sanford, Fla. in mid-March. Rochester finished in a tie for second place in the UAA standings with a 3-3 record.

Junior outfielder Jim Bard (Grosse Isle, MI/Chesterton) and junior shortstop Ed Kahovec (Victor, NY/Victor) were named to the First Team. Junior infielder/DH Frank Infurna (Rochester, NY/Webster Schroeder) and junior catcher Devin Shane (Bedford, NH/Manchester West) were named to the Second Team. It is the first UAA honor for all four men."

Quick Update - Ed Kahovec

Today's game against Brockport has been postponed, with no reschedule date available yet.
I will be updating the email list this week, when you receive my next email, I hope to have a more complete distribution list.
It was nice to see many of you at the games on Sunday. I will usually be wearing a yellow, yellowjacket ball cap, so stop by to say hello. I am notoriously bad with names, but promise to get better as the season progresses. To that end, and to help other parents get to know each others names, I will be requesting names, addresses, etc in my next email. Then I will add all this information to the old list and try to keep it updated.
Ken - I support you 100%, let me know if there is anything you would like me to do. I think it is great that the kids help to maintain their field, but this weekend was above and beyond, and they could have used additional help. I would even volunteer to help maintain the field when necessary, but I would like to see a little more support from the UR staff.
Thanks more to come later this week, including thoughts from the 2 games against Skidmore!!

Thank You - Rich Cannon

Shirl and I want to thank all of the parents that we had a chance to meet down in Florida. Your friendliness and conversations have made us feel welcome.
We know that some of the kids, and they will always be kids in our eyes, will be graduating soon. The short time that Andy will have had a chance to play baseball with them is a plus for him, learning from the upperclassman, and hopefully maintaining communication with one another into the future.
The season seems to be off to a good start compared to last year from what I have read. The team I thought played very well in Florida, and I get the sense that they are bonding as a team. The veteran players showing their support to the freshman really shows. That is not common, and I 'm sure it makes Andy feel welcome. I know it makes Shirl and me feel pretty happy.
Again, thanks to all, and a special thanks to those on the idea of creating this blog.

Poor Field Conditions - Ken Veenema

Parents,

Thought I'd get the UR parents blog off to a start. Just dropped my son Blair off at 8:30am at the U of R baseball field. Standing water throughout the outfield and 36 degrees, but 24 student athletes (our sons) and Coach Reina trying to get things ready for a 12 noon start of a weekend doubleheader. No grounds crew assistance and no pumps getting water off the outfield. Just our sons and their coach lugging buckets of water to the side. I am a big believer in the D3 athletic concept, but at 32K per year I have a real problem with the fact that there is no University support out there helping them out.
Plan on addressing this complaint with athletic department and university administation. Comments and suggestions?
Agreed and have parent support?

Ed Kahovec - Parent Communication

It was great to see and meet those of you that travelled to Florida this past week. I thought that the team did a great job and I am looking forward to the season. I am encouraged that last year we came out of Florida 1-7 and this year we were 5-4, and had a shot at the UAA Tournament title!

In the past, someone has maintained an email list of parents and alumni. I guess that I am volunteering myself. Please review this first list of those parents that were on Coach Reina's itinerary email and respond back with any corrections or any email addresses that I may have missed. I would like to put together a contact list for the parents and alumni, so I will be soliciting more information in the near future. I will go back to past lists and try to make this list as complete as possible.

Also, if anyone has any ideas about what they would like to see in the email, let me know! Should we set up a blog? Does anyone know how and where we could do this? Should I just ramble on about what a great group of boys we have on the team and how the parents enjoy each others company, etc, or maybe just a weekly update of some sort?

Hope to see many of you throughout the season, Wed Mar 21 23:16:41 2007
